Mitch: What fuels your love for baseball?

Kyler: The thing that most fuels my love for baseball is my competitiveness and my drive to success. It’s impossible to be perfect so there is always room for improvement making it easy to fall in love with the grind.

Mitch: You were a multi-sport athlete in high school. How has basketball helped you in baseball?

Kyler: Basketball has helped me in baseball because it is more physically demanding. I think basketball has taught me how to push myself even more off the field in strength and agility work.

Northrop is also a high school basketball star with Billings Central High School (Submitted Photo)

Mitch: You have been a staple in the Scarlets program for quite some time. What does it mean to you to now be playing your last year in the program?

Kyler: Being in the Scarlets program for so long has been very rewarding because I remember being the smallest one on the field at practice, and now I am someone that the young kids look up to. I remember how I felt in their shoes and that has helped make me a better role model. It has also been awesome to see our team get better each year I’ve been on the Scarlets.

Mitch: The Scarlets are looking good going into the summer. What are you looking forward to most this year?

Kyler: I’m really looking forward to this season because we have more talent returning this year than any year i’ve played. As well as some very promising guys who are coming up from the Cardinals. We have nine guys on the team this year already committed to playing college baseball and two guys that are coming back from college ball to super senior. With that being said, I don’t think anybody is going to accept anything less than a state championship after coming up just short and taking 2nd last year.

Mitch: During your college choice journey, you had quite a few options, what made Washington State the place for you?

Kyler: On my visit to Washington State, I really fell in love with the campus and the culture. The town of Pullman is really centered around the university and the sports teams receive a lot of support. Washington State was also one of the schools that I knew was playing the highest level of competition as the PAC 12 was still intact when I committed. Despite the conference change, as well as a coaching change since I first committed, I still have the upmost confidence in the schedule that we can put together as well as the awesome new group of coaches that I can’t wait to play for.

Mitch: What do you plan to study while at Washington State?

Kyler: Im planning on studying broadcasting next year. I’ve already been getting a little experience on the mic this year. I got to help Rocky Erickson as the color commentator for a couple of the Billings Central girls basketball games this past season. I’ve also been the emcee for our school pep rallies, talent show, and cake auction.

Mitch: What is something you want Cougar Nation to know about you?

Kyler: One thing that I want the Cougar fans to know about me is that I want to win just as much as all the lifelong diehard fans because after my commitment, I have become one. I love cheering on the Cougs. Not just in baseball but in every sport. So, I can’t wait to get there and be a part of it. GO COUGS!
