As his mentor, Grimm not only taught Hernandez how to excel on the ice but also instilled invaluable lessons about resilience and determination. Under Grimm's guidance, Hernandez learned that hard work and perseverance could overcome any challenge.

Falling in Love with the University of Washington Huskies

Armando Hernandez's admiration for the University of Washington Huskies began with a single game in San Diego, where he witnessed them compete against SDSU. This experience planted a dream in his heart—to one day wear the iconic purple and gold jersey himself. Inspired by the Huskies' tradition, Hernandez found motivation in the symbolic hockey mask, embodying the qualities of resilience and determination he strived to uphold.

Milestones with the UW Huskies

His journey with the Huskies started with nerve-wracking anticipation in his first game against Eastern Washington University. The thrill of competition peaked when he achieved his first victory against Gonzaga University, marking a significant milestone in his collegiate career. Armando Hernandez's hockey journey extended beyond borders when he was invited to join the International Ice Hockey Club in Mexico City. Competing against top-tier Canadian junior and college players from various nations, Hernandez pushed himself to new heights, expanding his skills and understanding of the sport. His accomplishments caught the attention of the NHL, who invited him for an interview. Representing Mexico on such a prestigious platform filled Hernandez with immense pride, showcasing not just his athletic abilities but also his homeland's resilience and spirit.

Final Tribute with the Huskies

Approaching the end of his collegiate hockey career, Hernandez made a poignant decision—to play his final game in the University of Washington Huskies' purple and gold uniform. This decision held special significance as it would take place in San Diego, where his admiration for the team began. Supported by familiar faces, including a former international teammate and Liga Elite Mexican Hockey League semi-professional player serving as team captain, Hernandez found camaraderie and leadership that underscored the unity fostered by their shared love for the game.

"I know Armando playing in his last game in a Huskies' uniform will mean the world to him. I've seen how much that entire experience shaped him as a goalie, a student, and as a person," said Mexican National Teammate Anthony Ornelas.

The tournament director, another former international teammate, further enriched the event by promoting charitable causes, emphasizing the spirit of giving back through hockey.
