Curtis Vikings' Shine in Narrow State Quarterfinal Loss to Mount Si Wildcats

Washington State 4A High School Lacrosse Quarter Finals

Stepping up this season in the largest way possible Curtis’ So. goalie, #10, Kapono Dilay battled the Mount Si Wildcats in the WIAA 4A State quarterfinals Friday  (May 17, 2024) night.  The Curtis Vikings came up just 2 points shy, falling to the  Mt. Si ‘Cats 9-7. Dilay working together with  poles Jr. #1, Charlie Phelps, Jr. #4, Jack May and Fr. #43 Jordan Adams kept the ’Cats to single digits with little issues clearing the ball. Mt. Si Wildcat Fr. #7, Liam Mumford put up five points with three  assists, controlling possession and earning Dilay’s vote for “Honor the game.”

Hats off to both teams for making to the state quarterfinals. It was an honor to call this exciting matchup!

Coming out of the quarterfinals with a “dub” for Mount Si, Fr. #7, Liam Mumford leads his team all season in points and does it again tonight against the Curtis Vikings. The Wildcats are the defending champions and are looking to go all the way once more. They will move on to the semifinals on Wednesday, 5/22.

Mumford fought until the final whistle with teammate Jr. #0 Kendall Saldivar, and So. #8 Luke Toldo, who controlled the ball most of the night for the Wildcats. Earning Honor the game tonight, Vikings Sr. #15, Rocco Koch finishing his High School career out at home in the state quarterfinals alongside fellow Sr. #25 Dane Nager and delivering an assist to Sr #20, Anderson Brant in the third for a spin Dodger goal just above the crease to tie the game at 6 goals a piece. The ‘Cats then pulled away, holding a 2-point lead until the finish. Final score 9-7
