Montana Tech Hockey Gears Up for Home Opener
By Merrick Parnell
The Montana Tech University Diggers Hockey team is gearing up for their home opener against the Moose Knuckles this weekend at the Butte Community Ice Center on Saturday night.
The Moose Knuckles are a local Men's league team that plays in tournaments and other competitions around Montana. Their roster this weekend could also feature some local "free agent" players.
The game is scheduled for a 7:30 puck drop on Saturday, January 27th. Admission to the game is just $5. The game will feature a merchandise table and a beer garden.
"The buzz around campus and the community is noticeable. I think everyone is excited to have college hockey back in Butte," said Tech's Head Coach, Dave Rathgeber. These guys are geared to go, and we will do our best to make this a really exciting game to watch."
Tech was supposed to open their season on the road against Idaho State University (ISU) last week, but those two games were postponed due to winter weather. Make-up dates for that game have yet to be announced, but Tech will host ISU on March 1st and 2nd at the Butte Community Ice Center. Tech hopes to add more games to their schedule, which will be announced later.
