Montana Tech Diggers’ Hockey Announces 2024-2025 Schedule

The Montana Tech University Diggers’ Hockey team has announced their schedule for the 2024-2025 season as they return to the American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA). Montana Tech University (Tech) competes in the Mountain West Collegiate Hockey League (MWCHL), of which Tech was a founding member when the league was established in 2013. Prior to joining the MWCHL, Tech was an independent member of the ACHA starting in 2010.

Throughout the season, Tech will face off against nine other teams, including in-state rivals Providence, the University of Montana, and Montana State University, as well as Idaho State University, Boise State, Weber State, Utah State University, Utah Valley University, and the University of Utah, a new league member coming over from the PAC 8 this season.

To start the season, Tech will travel to Utah to take on Utah Valley University (UVU) in Orem on September 13th and 14th.

After the early Utah trip, Tech will return home for an Alumni game on Friday, September 20th, at 7 p.m. at the Butte Community Ice Center.

On October 26th, Tech will have their home opener against Eastern Washington University for a matinee 1 p.m. faceoff at the Butte Community Ice Center.

The following weekend, Tech will travel to Boise to play a doubleheader against Boise State University on September 27th and 28th.

Montana Tech will return home to host a Halloween game with special promotions on October 31st and the following day, November 1st, against Utah Valley University.

Tech will hit the road for two more out-of-state games the next weekend against Williston State on November 8th and 9th in North Dakota, and then on the 10th in Sidney, Montana. The game in Sidney was a collaboration between the two clubs to bring college hockey to small-town Montana to help grow the game.

On November 15th, Tech will have a home-and-home series as they host in-state University of Providence (Great Falls) for an afternoon game at 3 p.m., before heading to Great Falls for the following day’s game on November 16th.

Following the University of Providence series, Tech heads back to Utah for the Beehive Showcase with games on November 21st against Utah Valley University, Colorado State University, Arizona State, and Cal State-Northridge on the 24th.

The Diggers wrap up the first half of the season at home, hosting the University of  Montana Griz on December 8th - their only game in December. The team jumps right back into play January 3rd, before classes officially start, traveling to Missoula to battle the Griz in the second of two meetings between the two clubs.

Montana Tech will then host the University of Utah for two games on January 17th and 18th at the Butte Community Ice Center, before three away games the following weekend against Utah Valley University, Weber State, and Utah State University from January 23rd-25th.

Fans will have a chance to see Tech at home on January 26th as the Diggers return to host Eastern Washington University for another day game at 1 p.m.

On January 30th, the Diggers will have another significant in-state clash against the highly decorated and successful Montana State University Bobcats with a road game in Bozeman.

January will close and February will begin with a series against Idaho State University on January 31st and February 1st at home in Butte. These  games are the last scheduled regular-season games for the Diggers before the playoffs.

The MWCHL postseason will be held from February 6th-8th in Missoula, the Tech also hopes to play in the regional playoff. In addition to the postseason, Montana Tech will play in the Montana Cup, a two-day winner-take tournament in Helena from February 14-15 with Providence, Montana Tech, Montana state, and Montana competing for the top prize.

Games are subject to change, and additional contests may be added towards the end of the season. You can find the full Tech schedule on their website.
