OIHS, the 2024 WIAA 2B/1B State Boy’s Golf Champs!

OIHS won the Boy’s 2B/1B WIAA High School Golf Championship after sending three golfers to the state: Josh Spinner, Sam Sutton, and Joe Anderson.

Anderson took first place individually, shooting 75 and 73 for a combined score of 148.  Spinner placed 6th (79,79, 158 total), and Sam Sutton placed 25th (86,87, 173 total).

“Winning the individual title is excellent, but it doesn’t mean as much to me as being able to hang a state championship banner in our gym,” Anderson said.

As an 8th grader, Anderson impressed many at the tournament and played well despite challenging conditions.

“Anderson kept calm and cool, making great shots and weathering the literal storm of the first day and the metaphorical one of being an 8th grader playing with high schoolers, as emotions can often run high on the last day of the tournament. He was focused on good shots and a team result, demonstrating team spirit and maturity beyond his years,” said Coach Ryan Kennedy.

A Solid Showing from the OIHS Ladies’ Golf Team

In the Girls’ tournament, Lili Malo placed 10th and hopes to keep climbing the leaderboard next year after doing so each year.

Coach Kennedy was also happy with the play of Chloe Anderson-Cleveland and Vera Sasan, who both qualified for the tournament in their first year of participating in the postseason.

“The rest of the Boy's and Ladies' teams are showing great signs of future state qualification, and hopefully, we can continue in this trend in the years to come,” Coach Kennedy said.

Thoughts on the Season from the OIHS Golf Coach

“Above scores and accolades, we strive to be the kind of players and team that others enjoy playing golf with because we enjoy the game and we play with respect and honor. This is a special group of kids, and I think we have met that goal this season,” he continued.
