The calendar finally turned to May, so what does that mean in Montana? It is finally warm consistently enough to play baseball! The Billings Royals and Scarlets had their home openers this weekend at Pirtz Field.

The Royals went 1-2 on the weekend. Splitting with the Missoula Mavericks by scores of 5-3 for their win and 17-10 for the loss and then losing to the always challenging Post 22 Hard Hats out of Rapid City by 10-5. This weekend's significant contributors for the Royals were Catcher Ryan Denowh, Third Baseman Ethan Chaney, and First Baseman Carson Jenkins.
Billings Scarlets Opening Weekend Recap
As for the Billings Scarlets, they came away from this weekend with a 2-1 record. They beat the Missoula Mavericks 11-6 and then had two hard-fought games against the Hard Hats, winning one 2-1 and then losing 5-4. The loss to the Hard Hats was the Scarlet's first of the season. When it comes to the Scarlets, they just had a good, well-rounded weekend overall. South Dakota State recruit Drew McDowell had a great day on the mound, and Washington State recruit Kyler Northrop had a good weekend. There were quite a few contributors to their wins this weekend.
